UTSA, IED and International Trade Center to Host Central American Delegation

San Antonio, TX (June 20, 2012) – Government representatives from Central American countries will be hosted by UTSA’s Institute of Economic Development and the International Trade Center from June 25-26, 2012. The objective of their visit is to receive additional training for the development of the Small Business Development Centers (SBDCs) in their countries.

The International Trade Center staff has been providing training to the governments of the visiting delegations’ countries (Belize, Guatemala, Honduras, Dominican Republic and Panama).

“We are very excited to host this Central America delegation. The goal of training and collaborating with these governments is to give them the tools to help their small and medium businesses expand their trade capabilities and develop stronger commercial ties with the U.S. We are proud to be part of extending the SBDC Network throughout the Western Hemisphere as a trade facilitation infrastructure”, said Cliff Paredes, Director of the International Trade Center.

UTSA’S International Trade Center Conducts Second SBDC Model Training Module In Honduras

San Antonio, TX (June 15, 2012) – International Trade Center Director Cliff Paredes and Senior International Business Consultant Monica Alcoz have just finished conducting the second training module on how to successfully run a Small Business Development Center (SBDC) in Tegucigalpa, Honduras on June 14 – 15, 2012.

This module focused on developing SBDC training programs. Training is important to Centers as both promotional tools and avenues to assist a greater audience of small business owners than business consulting services alone. More than 130 people attended including Carlos Avila Molina, Rector and Mario Lanza Vice Rector of Universidad Jose Cecilio del Valle in Tegucigalpa, Honduras, where the event was hosted, as did high-ranking officials in the Honduran government.

“The attendees were very enthusiastic about the presentations. Training is core to an SBDC’s function, and good training is able to make lasting connections in the community” said Cliff Paredes, Director of the International Trade Center.

This event was organized by the International Trade Center in partnership with the Universidad Jose Cecilio del Valle and the Secretariat of Industry and Commerce of Honduras.

UTSA’S International Trade Center Conducts Second SBDC Model Training Module In Mexico

San Antonio, TX (June 12, 2012) – Senior International Business Consultants Monica Alcoz and Julio Garcia de las Mestas conducted the second training module on how to successfully run a Small Business Development Center (SBDC) in Toluca, Mexico on May 30-June 1, 2012.

Directors and Consultants of the Mexican SBDC Network received this training, which included various group-working sessions focused on real consulting cases and on how to manage them to create and capture economic impact. The training also included a half-day group session concentrating on developing strategic plans for the participants’ centers. This training was hosted by the Universidad Autónoma del Estado de México (UAEMEX) and by the Mexican Association of SBDCs (AMCDPE).

“We were pleased to have a group of 108 attendees from over 20 higher education institutions. Our presentations allowed us to share our experience helping small businesses through consulting and training programs that create economic impact,” said Cliff Paredes, Director of the International Trade Center.

Mexico continues to lead the SBDC expansion in the Americas, with 108 SBDC centers operating through the country and with more than a 1,200 staff trained through this customized training sessions.
