Doug Smith to Moderate Panel at the Texas International Business Summit

San Antonio (February 17, 2014) – The International Trade Center at The University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA) Institute of Economic Development announced today that Doug Smith, International Trade Center Assistant Director, has been selected to moderate a panel on the on the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) trade agreement that is currently being negotiated between the United States and Australia, Brunei, Canada, Chile, Japan, Malaysia, Mexico, New Zealand, Peru, Singapore, and Vietnam at the Texas International Business Summit in Austin, TX, February 26th, 2014.

The 2014 Texas International Business Summit is a day-long event in Austin hosted by the Greater Austin Asian Chamber of Commerce. It will consist of a morning panel on the TPP, and an afternoon panel with represetitives from busineses that are engaged in international trade which exemplify the utility of the TPP to Texas businesses. A lunch keynote address will be presented by the William Craft Jr., Acting Assistant Secretary of State for the Bureau of Economic and Business Affairs. The Summit will be held at the Asian American Resource Center, 8401 Cameron Road, Austin, TX 78754. Parties interested in attending the event should contact the Greater Austin Chamber of Commerce.

“The TPP promises to be a very important step in the evolution of US and international trade regulation,” Said Smith. “It is something that Texas businesses will need to pay attention to in the coming months. The panel that has been put together to discuss the TPP will inform and direct area businesses to best use this pending agreement.”

Doug Smith has over 30 years of international business consulting experience in both the public and private sectors. He has been with the International Trade Center since 2002.
